Australian Messmate Pipefish “Corythoichthys intestinalis”

Also known as :: Banded Messmate Pipefish, Australian Messmate Pipefish, Scribbled Pipefish, Dragonface Pipefish. Found often in pairs in shallow water, on rubble and sand patches also along reef edges. They feed on tiny swimming invertebrates which they suck whole into their mouths. Pipefish are like seahorses in that the male gives birth! The female deposits their eggs after fertilization into the males pouch to incubate the eggs for one month before giving birth.
