The Kookaburra is a Kingfisher species that is native to Australia and can be found all over the country. With a stunning design depicting this rare bird, these large coins honor the country’s rich natural heritage Each of these coins is made of 0.999 pure silver and weighs 1 kg (32.15 oz). Furthermore, with a face value of $30, the Australian government considers them as legal tender (AUD). The Design The obverses of these coins, like all other Australian coins, feature a striking portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The letters ‘IRB’ stand for Ian Rank-Broadley, who produced this depiction. This image is also surrounded by the Queen’s name (ELIZABETH II), the issuing country’s name (AUSTRALIA), and the coin’s face value (30 DOLLARS). The reverse sides of these coins feature an annually changing design with one constant – the unique kookaburra bird. Perth Mint’s mintmark ‘P’ can also be seen on this side – proudly boasting the coin’s source.
